Amisha Plays Kid Born of Rape......

What is Amisha Patel essaying after her acclaimed role of a Muslim girl in 'Gadar-Ek Prem Katha'? She is all set to woo audiences again with the role of a child begotten from a rape incident in 'Yeh Zindagi Ka Safar'. Shocked? So was Amisha when she first listened to the story. "Director Tanuja Chandra had arranged a meeting with writer Mahesh Bhatt to get me to listen to the story. When Mr. Bhatt had finished with the story, I was crying like a child. It has so much pain and so much suffering from the life of a woman that I can say for sure that it is going to be the best emotional film of the year."

Amisha talks like a veteran. "No star is a guarantee of success today. What works is the story and the way it is presented on screen. In the absence of this, even the biggest director and the biggest star cannot save a film from being a washout. her next release, incidentally, will be the David Dhawan directed 'Yeh Hai Jalwa' with Salman Khan.

Critics say that Amisha has been very lucky because all her three films released so far have a story revolving around her character. But what is more interesting is that even her forthcoming films have a very strong woman-oriented storyline. Is this a calculated move? "Yes, you may be right that I have been lucky to get the attention of the storywriters in all my films so far. However, I always have been very conscious about my roles. I like to do all kind of roles. In fact, the role of Sakina in 'Gadar' was a dream one. I always wanted to do the role of Muslim girl and was lucky enough to get it in only my second film. The role of Sakina, however, was not easy."

Her claims about role selection notwithstanding, isn't Amisha doing typical masala films with the likes of David Dhawan? Won't it harm her prospects when she works in a small film like 'Suno Sasurji' by Vimal Kumar? "I have said that I am open to all kind of films. I also want to keep a balance between performance-oriented films and pure commercial ones. Coming to the second part of your question, I would say that no film is big or small. I cannot reject a Tanuja Chandra film because she cannot spend Rs.20 crores on a film."

There has been a lot of talk in the film trade about Tanuja Chandra's next film. It is seen as hot property. The Bhatt brothers (Mahesh and Mukesh) are planning a huge publicity campaign for the film. It is on the editing table right now and will be released in October. What role does Amisha have in this film? "I am playing role of a famous pop star who while reigning at the top in the music world is revealed as an illegitimate child born of a rape."

'Yeh Zindagi Ka Safar' was scheduled for release on September 21 but after the success of 'Gadar' producer Mukesh Bhatt has shifted it by one month ahead so as to negotiate with the distributors on his own terms.
